FAQ

Welcome to Nationwide Tax Solutions' general questions and answers page. We update the answers to reflect the most common questions we hear. We hope you find them helpful and informative.

If you don't find the answer to your question below, please give us a call at 1-866-790-1040 or use the contact form on our site and one of our tax professionals will be able to assist you.

  1. Do I have to meet with the IRS?
No. When you retain our services, we make all contact with the IRS on your behalf. There are rare exceptions when you must contact the IRS directly, but you will know that before we take your case.

  2. I have not filed a return in 10 years. Can you help me?
Yes. We will contact the IRS and order your wage information for the years you did not file. You will need to provide us with income and expense information. Then we prepare the missing returns and file them with the IRS. If there is a balance due we can work with you to negotiate an installment agreement or another appropriate resolution to your tax debt.

  3. I owe the IRS more than I can afford to pay. What are my options?
You may qualify for an Offer in Compromise. An offer will allow you to pay the IRS a fraction of what you owe.

  4. My wages have been levied. How can I get it removed?
Call us. We can prepare all of the required documents needed and negotiate a release of your levy.

  5. I have a joint account with my spouse who owes the IRS $35,000. Can they take my money?
Yes they can. If your spouse does not have an arrangement with the IRS such as an installment agreement, offer in compromise, or uncollectible status, then it can taken. Furthermore, if you filed a joint return with your spouse, your refund will also be taken.

  6. I owe payroll taxes from my business and the penalties are mounting. What should I do?
Delinquent payroll taxes are a very serious matter. It is important that you remain current with your obligation. Contact us immediately and we can evaluate your situation. This is definitely a case where you need to contact us first. Your answers to some initial questions from the IRS may determine whether you stay in business or not.

  7. I applied for a loan and found out that I have a tax lien. What can I do to get it removed quickly?
The legal time for the IRS to collect on the lien may have expired. If so, we can request that the IRS remove the lien immediately and they will do so. If it has not expired, there are some instances where the IRS will take a subordinate (secondary) position and allow your financial transaction to take place. A third (and most obvious) option is to pay the lien in full. But if you are reading this, you’re probably looking for other options.

  8. I have a large outstanding liability with the IRS, mostly comprised of interest and penalties. I can pay the tax due, but the interest and penalties are too much for me to handle. What are my options?
The majority of the time the IRS will not remove the interest, but the penalties may be eliminated if you can establish reasonable cause. You may be surprised what will constitute reasonable cause so it is worth looking into. Call us to discuss your particular situation.
